Check-out Station: Gargantia ep14 (hope floats on a green sea of memories)

Never thought I’d be revisiting this series, except maybe to show to someone who hadn’t seen it before. Gargantia for me was an average show with high expectations coming into it. That doesn’t make it bad, it’s just that it leaves me with an unfairly sour taste in my mouth, even though the series hasn’t done anything wrong. It’s almost like showing disdain towards a child that found a good job and place to live, but didn’t become a high paid doctor or lawyer. But enough about that, this episode is one of those one-shot episodes that takes place in the middle of the TV series story, but will have consequences so inconsequential that they won’t affect or even be mentioned anywhere else in it. So does that make this inherently a pointless episode, not necessarily. But you can’t be sure without actually watching. Read more…

Check-out Station: Attack on Titan ep25

Oh the glory! I’ve pretty much loved everything this show has done since the beginning, pacing complaints be damned. It always seemed like the show was aware of the viewers eye upon it, which kinda explains why the show seems so melodramatic. So I thought it was a nice little bit of fanservice (intentional or otherwise) to see the crazed and pompous worshipers of the walls be included in last week’s ending scene, where we see Eren clobber Annie into a building. I laughed so hard and happily that it might have disturbed somebody if they were in the room with me. Read more…

Attack on Titan ep24: it’s a cruel world out there

What do you do when one of your buddies turns into a giant that’s willing to kill everyone, and anyone in the pursuit of your abduction? You run like hell! With Annie exposed and in titan form, it’s become a mad rush to get some space and mount a counterattack.  Unfortunately, it looks like Annie is willing to risk killing Eren in pursuit of his death, on the other hand, Eren is much less enthusiastic about fighting her again.  I can imagine that’s for the reasons of not wanting to kill someone he knows, and she did kick his ass in the first fight.  Mikasa has clearly noticed this, and questions Eren’s motives.  There’s no denying the truth now. Attack on Titan ep23: your enemies reside in your softest, weakest underbelly

This episode starts out mundanely enough.  We’re given a glimpse into Annie’s world as she begins another day with the Military Police.  Here, we quickly see just how  lazy and corrupt the Military Police are as a whole.  The superiors take any and every chance to dump work on their subordinates wile they either screw or around or commit minor crimes.  At this point, my preconceptions could not be more spot-on when it comes to the Military Police. Majestic Prince ep23: I’m the hero… probably

I hope the GDF didn’t expect this battle to be won easily. Having tried everything from range, and coming up empty on results, Earth’s forces are somewhat left imp and deflated by the beginning of this episode. Even the most elite of elite, the mightiest of the mighty, Team Rabbits is unable to make much of a dent in the Wulgaru wall in front of the interstellar gate. This is clearly one of those “darkest before dawn” situations, and things are only going to get worst since Prince Jiart has grown weary of waiting.

With resources for most of Team Rabbits badly depleted, they are ordered to Read more…

Attack on Titan ep22: everybody gets an “F”

Well, I hope you guys like failure.  Because there’s a hell of a lot of it in this episode.  Given that this show gives off the strong vibe of a shounen battle manga, I doubt all this failure and loss will be the immediate end of things.  I get the feeling that this battle is going to come back harder and stronger than before.  But for now, drink in the river of tears that is Attack on Titan. On Holiday: Labor Day Anime Special pt2 (Majestic Prince ep22 & C3-bu ep10)

Majestic Prince ep22

I’d say it’s rudimentary to declare that things aren’t going as planned as we start this episode. Think of it as a matter of just plain bad timing. As the operation commences, Team Rabbits bumps right into the Wulgaru mega force just as they leave the gate. It’s a bit close for comfort, but the Wulgaru are incidentally right in the way of the operation. On the positive side for Earth though, they’re hardly expecting a fight, and this is looking possibly like a game of rugby, with the roughest and toughest attempting to push their way to the goal. On Holiday: Labor Day Anime Special pt1 (Majestic Prince, C3-bu & Love Lab)

I’m going to do something a little different this week, since I planned on having fun on Labor Day – a day to celebrate working people.  I decided to take it easy this past weekend, and cover the usual anime in shorter fashion.  Well, I won’t totally stick to that. If i’m particularly inspired then some of these may be longer. But for now, I’m gonna do a “Week in Review” type of post for this weekend for some shows. Starting with Majestic Prince episode twenty one. Read more…

Attack on Titan ep21: trust is overrated and victory is delicious

I suppose this battle could have gone better, but I can’t see how it could get any worse also. With a lot of dead soldiers and wasted resources, there’s nothing to show for what they’ve done. And now, with all the layers of defense peeled away, there’s nothing standing between the Female Titan and Eren aside from three very good, but very scared and over matched soldiers. And I have to say, for a moment I was impressed, though not fooled. Read more…

Attack on Titan ep20: how much do you want it?

This show has evolved into something beyond my expectations, but not something beyond what I should have expected. The war on the titans has really turned into a more pitched battle between the Recon Corps and some very special titans. There’s more strategy involved here than in all of the Trost arc, and really shows how the Recon Corps is on another level compared to the rest of the forces we’ve seen so far, and it also displays just how powerful Eren may be.
