KILL LA KILL! ep20: bare-assed and angry

I have unfinished business to attend to. Before I can really move onto a full schedule of watching new anime, this must be complete. There’s no sense in playing around with a bunch of new unproven anime, when I still have just a few more episode of what may be a masterpiece in the end. The final stretch for KILL LA KILL. Check-out Station: Golden Time ep21 – FINAL

Well here I am.  I’m quite late, but not as late as i expected.  It’s been a long time coming.  I originally said that I had high hopes for this series, and that I was looking forward to something dramatic and exciting.  But as I got through this series it got more weird, a less of everything else.  Less romance, more screaming.  Less comedy, and more goofiness.  So then let’s see if this final stretch of the show can redeem Golden Time, and make it truly a memorable show. KILL LA KILL ep19: face the fear of a world devoid of nudity

If the previous episode was a knockout punch, then this episode is the ref’s countdown to see if the show’s protagonists can get off the mat in time. and by the end of the episode it’s clear that while the battle is not over, the good guys have weak legs and are disoriented. (Sorry, I’ve been watching a lot of Hajime no Ippo lately.)

I started this episode in a really dour mood.  Not only are all my favorite characters getting their asses kicked, but possibly the best character was gobbled up for good when the COVERS monsters caught Mako and ate her!

Golden Time ep19: weak sauce

On the plus side, I learned I was horribly mistaken about one of my previous misconceptions about this show. On the other end, this show still feels compelled to disguise high school drama in the cloak of a university setting. Or perhaps this is just another in a long line of cases of me having too high a bar for a series in terms of its maturity.

Despite my negative tone, it wasn’t as if I didn’t enjoy this episode.  Progress is Read more…

KILL LA KILL ep18: !!!!!

February 17, 2014 2 comments

This episode was like watching someone reach the summit, only to be grabbed by the balls and tossed all the way back down to the bottom! F*CK!

I was so ready to write something positive, but everything good that happened this episode was wiped away by the near godly hand of Ragyou Kiryuuin. I dare say that this episode had the most jarring power swing I’ve ever seen in an anime. And this looks like it could be a worse defeat than anything I’ve seen in any other anime. Every pinnacle was overshadowed, and any weakness became a glaring flaw for the world to see. Read more…

Golden Time ep17 & 18: sometimes you just need the courage to face your past.

It feels good to be back watching this show again.  I think taking a break or a breather from anime for a bit deepens your desire watch it.  I think that applies to this show as well.  Absence makes the heart grow fonder. Read more…

KILL LA KILL ep17: to violently disagree!

AH AHAHAHA!  Ryuuko wasn’t around for the interactions between Lady Satsuki and her mother.  So I understand her surprise.  But this shouldn’t come as one to anyone who has been viewing so far.  The relationship between Lady Satsuki and Lady Ragyou was so cold, and unfeeling that you just knew she wasn’t going along with what her mother said.  Honnouji Academy is a super serious place, but there’s no doubt they were preparing for war.

Interesting things that occurred this episode include Read more…

KILL LA KILL ep16: a product of your environment

Well, a new direction is what I was expecting. And it’s what we get.  It’s quite clear that there will be a renewed focus, and it’s not gonna be towards Ryuuko and Senketsu.

What I noticed a lot about this episode was how much more focus there was on Lady Satsuki’s vulnerability.   Read more…

AniFriday Issue #11 (January 31st, 2014): the Snowed in Special Edition

14 - 2-SNOW

It’s been a hell of a week or two for me.  As an adult, I don’t think weather has kicked my ass as much and as hard as it has this month.  I’ve had to evacuate my house twice because the heater couldn’t keep up with the below freezing temperatures.  People are getting injured left and right, and being on the roads is the worst thing you can do.  But at least I have time to watch some anime and read some manga.  All I need is electricity, water and tea leaves.

Here are the anime I’ll be covering this week, in order of appearance:

  • Golden Time ep15
  • Tokyo Ravens ep14
  • Tonari no Seki-kun ep1
  • Bleach ch566
  • One Piece ch736
  • Team Medical Dragon ch95 Read more…

KILL LA KILL ep15: it’s the asspocalypse! Run for your lives!!!

This episode was so good this week! *squeals!* Not only are we subjected to glowing nipples, epic displays of guts and GAR, and shown close to twenty minutes of non-stop chaos, but I finally get to see Nudist Beach pop up in earnest. And man, do they have some stupid, ugly mech designs. It’s absolutely hilarious! Read more…
