Valvrave ep10: it really could have been worse

June 15, 2013 1 comment

My head. My head is swollen and full of – stuff, right now.  That said, you people overhyped this episode of Valvrave.  You think this episode was terrible?  You think it was terribad?  I could give you twenty series with episodes worse than this.  This isn’t Valvrave at its lowest.  This is Valvrave ALL THE TIME! You need thick skin for something this ridiculous.  Let’s get this over with. Read more…

Valvrave ep9: protect and punish

June 7, 2013 1 comment

So begins the first test of L-Elf and Haruto’s alliance to keep everyone safe and defeat the Dorssian fleet.  And things seem smooth in the beginning, as most things do in anime before they go to sh*t. The real conflict in the beginning is the internal one within Kyuuma.  He so desperately wants the power of the Valvrave, and he wants it in order to avenge his never-girlfriend Aina, who by the way, is having one hell of a wake online.  It’s a nice, but shallow gesture in my opinion.  But I won’t be too hard on the people who did it, because she was just a young girl, and there’s no other way to express remorse for her death in war time. Valvrave ep8: to many more bittersweet victories

June 2, 2013 1 comment

While I can’t say I completely understand the overall view of Valvrave the Liberator, I can say that episode by episode, I can tell what message they’re trying to get across. The overall theme seem to be getting things to mix, or work well together. Which is a welcome theme for this show, because it has so many interesting elements that I’ve been waiting to see come together. Read more…

Valvrave ep7: an epic sweep

Well the tone has certainly shifted!  Though the situation is still at a stalemate, we’re starting to see bodies now.  And an alliance seems to be inevitable between the two more powerful characters in this show. Read more…

Check-in Station: Mid-Season Review (Spring 2013)

This has been quite honestly, my most successful season since I started blogging.  I’ve watched several anime before, but I wasn’t attempting to write about all of them on an episode by episode basis.  Even better yet, I used to just watch a series in bulk.  I’d either get a DVD or find a batch of files and watch until I got tired, or I ran out of material.  The only time that ever backfired was when I was watching the original Code Geass (why would they have a six month break between episode 23 and the end of the series?!).  Now I’m watching seven (maybe eight) series at the moment, and their pretty much all to the halfway point.  So instead of doing a “Check-in” post on all seven, I’m gonna give the run down for the majority in one post, right here.  That way I can get on with whatever other projects I’m working on at the moment.

Now then, let’s get started.  I’ll do this in whatever random order I choose.  I will not be assigning score or rank.  I will just be assigning opinions. Read more…

Valvrave ep6: beat the world!

May 19, 2013 3 comments

This is pretty ridiculous. I’ve resigned myself to looking forward to this show on a weekly basis. Even massive holes in logic, nonsensical character choices or set up or cut & paste construction of this show have kept me from enjoying it. And to make matters worse, I believe the most flawed character in this show is my favorite. The more I understand of the characters, the less I care about understanding the show. Read more…

Valvrave ep5: it’s good, we just don’t know it yet?

Curse this show for being so damn entertaining. There’s a reason why I avoid shows that focus on kids surviving amongst themselves. It’s because they’re usually annoying and stupid to the point of inciting an urge to maim them. The problem with Valvrave is that it heads you off “at the pass”. It’s already maimed characters, it already knows it’s annoying, and it already knows how to keep you watching. Read more…

Valvrave ep4: because thinking about it too much hurts

Episode 3

I don’t really have words for what I just saw. My thoughts on Valvrave: the Liberator were that it was probably gonna be just another Sunrise mecha show that doesn’t get it. But this is starting to turn into a number of Sunrise shows that I still think doesn’t get it, but it doesn’t matter because it’s its own weird sort of thing. Even though I could easily describe it as just everything Sunrise did thrown together, it’s weirdly entertaining as more than the sum of its parts. All that said, this episode was a complete mess! Valvrave ep3: hackers, killers and vampires

April 27, 2013 1 comment

Things in the world of Valvrave aren’t as heroic as they seem, ever. But that could be a good thing, as episode three seems to want the characters and the viewers to look at all sides of the coin… or die. And don’t get the wrong impression, I won’t be saying this show is deep, or good. At this point, I’m laughing and enjoying myself. Read more…

Valvrave ep2: monsters don’t have feelings?

April 20, 2013 2 comments

Hmph!  I wanna say monsters at least feel pain, anger, and pleasure at devouring their prey. Buck up Haruto! Your predicament isn’t so bad, and neither is your show.  Valvrave has caught my interest! Read more…
