Lagrange ep8: I’m as disappointed as Madoka to learn of the “secret” behind the “aliens”.

[Rinne no Lagrange ep7]

This show melds a lot of things into its recipe for a show. Though I didn’t know goth loli would be one of the ingredients. Cross dressing is another surpise ingredient as well. Oh Lagrange, I don’t know exactly what to make of your playful nature, but at least you’re taking the time to explain yourself.

What a kick I got to see the show enjoying itself and showing me one of the things I enjoy most about it in the opening sequence. The beautiful animation and the Voxes in flight. They even got to throw in a Top Gun style buzzing of the command center/tower. All three of the girls of getting along swimmingly, so you just know something has to be thrown in to shake up the dynamic. And since it doesn’t appear battle will be that thing then there is no better solution than another woman. Well perhaps the word “woman” isn’t the best descriptor. Read more…

[Rinne no Lagrange ep6]

But I can’t complain about things like skinny-dipping, beautiful animation and artfully crafted flashbacks.  It’s strange. Even the stuff that normally annoys me just got glossed over this time.  This episode is the story of two characters who had lost their mojo and restored it in the span of this episode.  And also it may be the episode where I finally accepted Rinne no Lagrange.  *sigh* Read more…

[Rinne no Lagrange ep5]

Well, I knew this was gonna be a battle episode. Madoka had been itching for a fight ever since the very end of last episode.  Then again, i can’t blame anyone for feeling a little vindictive towards Ve- Va- … Mr. Vegemite!  He sh*t all over Muginami without a care in the world.  Though even though he did such a thing, I have to believe there’s some reason for him being such an a-hole.  I’m not saying it’s justifiable, I just want to know the backstory. #Lagrange ep5: get your hands off my Muginami you damn dirty alien! #anime

Well, things are progressing. Things are progressing nicely! For the most part this episode was still the same fluff that I don’t really enjoy, but I do like Muginami’s character, I liked her pretty much as soon as I saw her (it has hardly anything to do with the breasts). So I wasn’t too happy with how she got treated at the end of this episode. But I’m jumping ahead.

Rinne no Lagrange is making a good effort to explain things, though it’s hardly giving much away. Obviously there’s a war, but the sides aren’t exactly clear, and the circumstances definitely are not either. At best we know that who Muginami sides with, and who LAN (“Woof!”) sides with are opposing factions. What exactly they’re fighting over isn’t totally clear either though. I’m not betting that the Vox are the goal, so much as they may be the means to an end.

It makes it especially admirable that Muginami is keeping things in perspective. Just because they’re perceived enemies doesn’t mean they have to fight. LAN as usual is the classic tight ass, and is running background checks left and right. I wasn’t surprised that they chose to face their issues this episode.

What did surprise me was seeing the extra tall and cool-looking, Lord Vegimite (sorry, I’m just terrible at names), snatch her up by the face. Talk about cold-hearted rejection, that was a moment that seriously caught me off guard. So I guess that does justify Madoka’s strangely harsh attitude towards him. I’m assuming it’s one of those things where she can sense if someone has a good heart. Ugh! I still can’t stand her.

Not a bad episode overall though, I suppose next week will be when I judge this series for real.

#Lagrange ep4: we’ve got a bit of a jealous rivalry going on here. Interesting. #anime

[Rinne no Lagrange eps1-3]

Now, they’re milking the hell out of this transfer student trope aren’t they? Muginami is super suspicious, but right now all I can tell is that she’s playing dumb and knows way more than she’s letting on. I suspect that she’s another one of the aliens, because she’s quite familiar with Lan’s lineage and title. Poor Lan, someone as introverted as her is just doomed to be outshone by outgoing and open types like Muginami. I’m tempted to make the Shini, Rei and Asuka comparisons here, but Madoka throws that idea right out the window.

Aside from the oh so good life of the three girls living things out on Earth, we see that our pretty boy aliens are in quite a spot when a handsome rugged alien dude shows up. He seems hostile at first, but then he asks for their help with something. I have no doubt it will be a combined attempt to try and capture the Vox machines. Also, the blonde pretty boy who got captured is mysteriously released from his cell and escapes with his machine. Looks like we have a mole in the building.

So far, so good I suppose. I wonder if my anger with this show will return when the combat starts up again. This episode was completely about the world outside or the upcoming stellar crisis, and this show seemed perfectly tolerable. Oh well, time will tell.

DonKangolJones’ Images of the Week: January 30th (chill out man, enjoy the ride!)

After a week off to right a little for We Remember Love, I get to come back to my hobby of summing up what I’ve watched in blog format.  I got to enjoy a pivotal moment in a manga I’ve been following for near a decade.  I discovered a comedy that has made me laugh in harder in two episodes than anything else I can remember watching in a long while, maybe since Fumoffu.  And I witnessed the end of an “age” of anime.  So then, here are the my images of the week! Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day!  And for those of you that don’t think it’s a real holiday and don’t earnestly celebrate it, you’re a racist!  Black people, I’m talking to you too!  Learn your holidays you lazy kids.  *grabs cane and shakes it*  I have to say, it’s been one hell of a productive week, at least as far as anime goes anyway.  Outside of anime and manga it’s been kinda rough.  I’m on the verge of beating Skyward Sword when the Motion Plus breaks, the washing machine breaks, I lose a 32 gig SD card…  dear lord!  Anime has been a respite!  So I hope you enjoy what comes across as an extra level of enthusiasm for one of the few things that have been awesome possum for me this week.  Anime, you are my sanctuary!
