Gundam Unicorn ep6: you are not who we thought you were!

Episode 5

I love Gundam Unicorn! I mean it! I absolutely adore this series, and I don’t fear it not living up to expectations at all. It is a “oldfag”, Universal Century lover’s dream of a production. Even when episodes seem to run “cool” (have lots of exposition and downtime), they still are utterly compelling to me. Take this sixth installment in the latest series of OVA’s from the Gundam franchise. There is a lot more tension than combat, and that has kinda become the norm for this production. But when there is combat it is of a level many have only dreamed of, stuff us long-adoring, long-suffering fans have only seen in spurts. Couple that with some excellent set up for the final battle, and the almost surreal image of Mineva ZABI putting on that Zeon uniform; and you have a production that I think many anime fans and outsiders can enjoy to a certain degree, but can only be fully appreciated by those fans intimately immersed in this metaverse for so many years. Now then, Gundam Unicorn episode six. Let’s go. Read more…

Gundam AGE ep44: dripping with hyperbole, like chocolate syrup on a delusional sundae.

[Gundam AGE ep43]

I’ve never hid my dislike for Zeheart Gallette, nor will I start now.  But I will state that I’m trying to be fair.  Something that doesn’t really come up very often in the show in regards to him.  I think he’s fairly assessed as an outstanding pilot and a charismatic and likable personality.  But I think he’s unfairly assessed as a great commander (by the people in the show) and competent judge of character.  And at his core, I don’t find Zeheart to have much of a personality.  But this episode was the episode that I sat back and honestly hoped that he would make the right decision.  The moral one.  Or at least put up a fight.  Can you guess how he handled it? Gundam AGE ep42: a new system is needed, or space hugs are bad.

Way late, but somehow still on time for Gundam AGE episode 42. And there is a lot to harp on. The mounds of dialogue from inside of cockpits. The flashy, but never too impressive mecha combat. How badass, ruthless Federation pilots always make me remember love for the Titans (not those knock-off A-LAWS). And the fact that AGE is making me rethink my position as a fan of the Gundam franchise. Let’s go! Read more…

What the hell is this?! Asemu doesn’t get much of a break does he?  And I can’t for the life of me understand Zeheart’s thinking.  Either you view him properly as an enemy or you don’t.  Don’t try to romance his weakness and then hesitate to end his life.  Though I will say I like one thing, Gundam AGE is bitter as hell. And it doesn’t have much of a use for old men. Read more…

There are plenty of ways to deal with your feelings towards a problem.  There’s only one true way to deal with the problem itself. That appears to be what Asemu’s learning to master as of this episode of Gundam AGE. You could easily pin the guy (can’t say he’s a kid, despite his character design he is an adult) with the spoiled, entitled brat label. But you’d only be showing how much of an ignorant hate you are. The only thing Asemu has lacked so far was
focus. True focus on a goal. He doesn’t lack it now. Read more…

#GundamAGE ep20: Zeheart is still an awesome pilot, and a terrible commander. #anime

Well that was a fun episode. I would hardly say much moved forward.  It was more a case of more possibilities and options being put on the table. It’s an episode seasoned with some good Gundam-style space acrtion and sprinkled with a bit of the show’s penchant for terrible tactics and strategies.  I suppose that’s something I’ve learned to accept. Gundam AGE ep17: this love triangle is progressing rather quickly, AGE has never been a slow paced show though.

Zeheart seems to be falling for Romary rather quickly.  The show is taking the old school approach to making someone a romantic interest: save the lady’s life in a fancy manner.  The manner?  Mid-air intercept of errant wrench, protecting the lady’s health and beauty.  *thumbs up* I found it a little cliche, but it got the job done. Gundam AGE ep16: not a bad start. Asemu’s more well-adjusted than I expected.

Flit has a simmering and focused hatred. Emily is as forgettable as ever. Vargas is still old and fat, matter of fact he’s older and fatter (uh duh!). And I could have sworn that was Largan in that antique mobile suit. Or whoever that guy is inside, he has Largan’s luck. But the second “age” isn’t gonna be about these guys, so let’s move on. Gundam Unicorn ep4: Remember the Titans! (Banagher has earned many BRO points this episode.)

*fist pump*

I was a little bit lost at first, it has been awhile since I made my way through the third episode. And this bit of the OVA accomplished quite a bit in the one hour it had to work. I got to see some nice One Year War-esque carnage along with the grandness and beefiness of CCA era mobile suits. The beginning attack on Dakar was just a teaser apparently for the carnage that was the last 15 – 20 minutes. Read more…

#GundamAGE ep13: not bad for a “kiddie show”. Hell, not bad for Gundam. #anime

Alright, I thought the UE just seemed weird. I’ll say they’re alien now. There was some nice set up to the battle. Of course Emily isn’t of much use since all she was gonna do and did was watch. I’ll take her in that position over the annoyances of Flay or Fa anyday. Read more…
