DonKangolJones’ Images of the Week: August 1st (It’s all about 7’s & bathhouses.)

Hello everybody! I’ve taken time out of watching women’s gymnastics (don’t ask), women’s volleyball (don’t ask), women’s swimming (don’t ask), and men’s basketball and the Olympics in general to bring back my “images of the week” posts. Since I came back from my hiatus, I’ve had trouble figuring things out. The straight forward part was catching up and finishing shows I was engaged with before I disappeared. I’m generally caught up with Fairy Tail and Gundam AGE. I’ve finished Symphogear (damn fun). And the showmen manga scene doesn’t move very briskly, so I’ve had no trouble keeping up there.

The real trouble comes with the new stuff, and the blog itself. Before I disappeared I had a plan, but right now it’s not so clear. I’ve made my attempts at episodic blogging. And while I enjoyed talking about certain shows up until a point, it’s very hard for me to push out thoughts that aren’t more than moldy unique from what I’ve said the week before on a series (Mouretsu Space Pirates, I blame you). And I. Definitely not the type to push out an editorial post twice a week. So for now, please bear with me as I figure things out. Right now, these special “images of the week” posts are the most comfortable and unique things I can push out. “Viva la Pervy Images of the Week!” Read more…

Check-out Station: Macross Plus OVA (Dude bro’s gotta dude bro, and crazy software bitches gotta die!)

And the hero always saves the girl.

I would like to believe that I had a grasp on this show from the moment I saw it. But I found out that I cared less about that the longer I watched. In the end, Macross Plus was just a fun show to watch. And what an exciting, balls-out ending. Read more…

Macross Plus OVA pt3: it’s not about planes, it’s about hearts

It takes a real unique sort of person to be a test pilot.  All sorts of traits like courage, creativity, independence, quick thinking.  But such an extreme sort of person has to have some negatives.  And I don’t imagine those sort of negatives make you a great person to be around. That’s what part three of Macross Plus is appears to be pointing out.  For as awesome as these guys can be, they’re jerks.  And they’re broken.  And I don’t think the woman of their dreams, Myung is any different.  She’s just tired of it all. After a week off to right a little for We Remember Love, I get to come back to my hobby of summing up what I’ve watched in blog format.  I got to enjoy a pivotal moment in a manga I’ve been following for near a decade.  I discovered a comedy that has made me laugh in harder in two episodes than anything else I can remember watching in a long while, maybe since Fumoffu.  And I witnessed the end of an “age” of anime.  So then, here are the my images of the week! DonKangolJones’ Images of the Week: January 16th (am I watching anime, or the Playboy channel?)

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day!  And for those of you that don’t think it’s a real holiday and don’t earnestly celebrate it, you’re a racist!  Black people, I’m talking to you too!  Learn your holidays you lazy kids.  *grabs cane and shakes it*  I have to say, it’s been one hell of a productive week, at least as far as anime goes anyway.  Outside of anime and manga it’s been kinda rough.  I’m on the verge of beating Skyward Sword when the Motion Plus breaks, the washing machine breaks, I lose a 32 gig SD card…  dear lord!  Anime has been a respite!  So I hope you enjoy what comes across as an extra level of enthusiasm for one of the few things that have been awesome possum for me this week.  Anime, you are my sanctuary! #MacrossPLUS OVA pt1: “battle of the douchebags” #anime

Well this left a good first impression. They establish the main character and his predicament and situation pretty quickly and clearly. He’s an ace pilot who kicks ass and balls, and also he’s a huge pain in the ass to everyone he meets. He’s so much of pain in the ass that they don’t even care about how effective he is in combat and decide to demote him through transfer.

What I can’t figure out is who gets demoted by becoming a test pilot?! That’s retarded! The man is so good that he gets bored in combat, so you send him some place with the latest and greatest tech. Yeah, I would be real broken up about that, too. Not!

And then we get a nice st up for a rivalry and then a set up for a love triangle (which I thought was pretty overly dramatic, but still par for the era). We even get hints that the rival pilot may be messing with some dangerous tech that has ill side effects on his mind. He really does look inhuman, sitting on that cockpit all Buddha-like.

I think I’m going to like this little slice of the Macross universe. The fluid and detailed animation and combat, along with some decent characters are matched well so far, in what appears to a fun summer movie. My only regret is not anticipating a mini-marathon of this. I would have gladly devoured this in one night. See? I can enjoy something that isn’t socked in the “tears of time.”
