DKJ’s Favorite Christmas Animations

December 24, 2013 2 comments

Well, I’m finally feeling in the Christmas spirit, and I’m taking time to go through and watch some of my favorite Christmas cartoons.  Plenty of people watch their favorite Christmas movies and television specials, whether it be “It’s a Wonderful Life”, or a Die Hard murder-fest.  But for me I enjoy watching animation.  Why?  It’s because Christmas for me has always been something full of great childhood memories, and a special time of year for children.  You could say that while most children enjoy the holiday the most, they don’t all fully immerse themselves in the truest part of the Christmas spirit (don’t worry, I’m not going all holy on you guys).  They get the gifts and look forward to receiving them far more than shopping for and giving to other people.  And therefore they have the most excitement in anticipating the holiday, and in those lovely opening moments of ripping open the presents.  They have the richest memories of those times as a child.  And that too is the case for me. Check-in Station: DKJ’s annual Harem Hall-of-Fame Induction 2013

I made a post several years ago that I very regrettably never followed up. I think most guys (and some women) have their list of favorite hotties. Their mental list of of people they find most attractive. And it never perfectly corresponds to anyone else’s list. In a funny way, I believe it’s one of the more personal things you can express, when you take that list and put it to paper with pen. Or in the case of a blogger, take your idea from keystrokes to ones and zeros on your screen. I did so in that previous post, and I’m going to do it again this time. This is the list of my nominees for my Harem Hall-of-Fame. Read more…

DonKangolJones’ Images of the Week: August 1st (It’s all about 7’s & bathhouses.)

Hello everybody! I’ve taken time out of watching women’s gymnastics (don’t ask), women’s volleyball (don’t ask), women’s swimming (don’t ask), and men’s basketball and the Olympics in general to bring back my “images of the week” posts. Since I came back from my hiatus, I’ve had trouble figuring things out. The straight forward part was catching up and finishing shows I was engaged with before I disappeared. I’m generally caught up with Fairy Tail and Gundam AGE. I’ve finished Symphogear (damn fun). And the showmen manga scene doesn’t move very briskly, so I’ve had no trouble keeping up there.

The real trouble comes with the new stuff, and the blog itself. Before I disappeared I had a plan, but right now it’s not so clear. I’ve made my attempts at episodic blogging. And while I enjoyed talking about certain shows up until a point, it’s very hard for me to push out thoughts that aren’t more than moldy unique from what I’ve said the week before on a series (Mouretsu Space Pirates, I blame you). And I. Definitely not the type to push out an editorial post twice a week. So for now, please bear with me as I figure things out. Right now, these special “images of the week” posts are the most comfortable and unique things I can push out. “Viva la Pervy Images of the Week!” Read more…

Kimi ni Todoke S2 ep2: “Love is all about timing.” And yours is terrible! Just terrible!

July 22, 2012 2 comments

While episode two started around Valentine’s Day, episode two skips us ahead to April, the beginning of Sawako’s sophomore session of school. And true to standard anime form, most everyone has been kept together. Seeing as how Pin is the homeroom teacher, it can’t be a coincidence. What does appear to be a coincidence, or providence, may be the appearance of that blonde guy who found Sawako so interesting last episode, Kento. Kento Miura. And as I said before, I hope this is the start of a beautiful rivalry. The atmosphere of this show is great, but it could always use a good kick in the pants.

There’s not much to say for this episode in total.  Kimi ni Todoke has always been a leisurely paced show. And in the end this episode can be summed up with Kento’s obvious interest with Sawako.  Shota’s obvious notice of his obvious noticing of Sawako.  Shota’s obvious attempts to step up his game and patch up the communication gap with Sawako after school.  And Sawako obviously choking under the slightest pressure… obviously.  Oh and by the way, Kento seeing Shota leave the room with Sawako still in it and putting their obvious chemistry together.  But this obviously isn’t going to be handled quickly.

Though it pains me to see Sawako fudge up every opportunity to progress socially, it does give us a chance to hopefully see Shota progress as a character that can be more interesting, and hopefully less perfect.

Kimi ni Todoke Season 2 ep1: it’s too simple to not be complicated.

To say my picking up so season two of Kimi ni Todoke is overdue, is an understatement.  It was easily one of my favorite shows when it aired in 2009; and this continuation didn’t take long to follow up.  But I have no regrets.  Now is as good a time as any to soak up the joy of a quaint, cute, deliberately paced series like Kimi ni Todoke.  Besides, there are some unanswered questions that I would greatly appreciate getting answers to. End of Year Special: The Best pt3 (Anime Series of the Year)

January 27, 2011 3 comments

It’s getting well into January and I realized that I couldn’t drag things out bit by bit until February roared around and decided to streamline my end of year awards.  Let me just say that if your show didn’t make it more than likely I just didn’t get around to seeing it… or I hated it.  And that being said, this can’t be called definitive in any way.  Like all my blog entries I’m really just archiving my thoughts and experiences to look back on at a later time.  Regardless, here’s what I most enjoyed about 2010 in delicious All-American list form.
