The World God Only Knows: Tenri-hen arc

Episode 1

It has been more than a while since I’ve partaken in an episode of The World God Only Knows. But with one of my next major project being to get through season three of this series, this little OVA is more than an appropriate spot to get warmed up for it. The Tenri-hen arc is one of my favorite arcs if memory serves me right. All I’m hoping for going into this though, is for the anime to convey the original magic of the manga appropriately. AniFriday Issue #7 (December 20th 2013)

December 19, 2013 1 comment

This has been a tiring and hectic week for me, but it has also been a week with one of the best moments of my life.  Sunday my sister graduated from the UNC Chapel Hill!  I don’t know what her major is, I think it has something to do with some holistic medicine, witch doctor mumbo-jumbo.  But that doesn’t matter right now.  I’m intensely proud (and a bit jealous) of her.  And if she gets to read this (because I didn’t really talk that much that day), I wish her all the happiness in the world, and a good job, too.

Now then, onto the anime and manga commentary.  Here’s what I’ll be covering this week, in order.

  • Tokyo Ravens ep11
  • Ms. MONOCHROME ep12
  • Valvrave ep22
  • Coppelion ep12
  • One Piece ch732
  • Naruto ch659
  • Bleach ch562
  • Team Medical Dragon ch90
  • The World God Only Knows

Oh, and in case you’re wondering about the change in titling for these posts from being named parts to issues; I’m attempting to go with the magazine theme I love so much.  I know this is a blog, but humour me.  This is a hobby after all, I’m gonna f*ck around and experiment any chance I get. DonKangolJones’ Images of the Week: May 1st (it has been a rough week)

Well it hasn’t been a rough week for me personally, more like for the anime characters I’ve seen this week.  Given the fact that I watched some good old  80’s and 90’s mecha, I got some decent gore.  And then when I thought my week was gonna be all nice and smooth with only a minimal amount of blood and violence I run into the buzz saw that is Shiki episode 14.  The good news is Read more…

Check-out Station: Farewell Fall 2010 season! (I stayed a bit too long.)

January 24, 2011 5 comments

Fall 2010 of the anime season was the first (and probably only) season of material I tried to follow almost completely as it aired.  Some may call it ambitious, I call it a f*cking chore (sorry, I watched Zero Punctuation before writing this so I may be a little “snarky” i.e. a bitch!).  But regardless I had a lot of fun, watched plenty of quality anime, and some horrid ones as well.  And normally I do goodbye post for every series I complete.  And normally I’d have time to do that.  But, and let me count, ….. ELEVEN anime means nearly eleven posts (obviously several are still ongoing) and I just don’t have the time.  Not to mention the then ongoing series that completed at or near the end of the season.  So I decided to roll everything up into one fat, American mega post and give a mini-Check-out for each and every one of these series.  Here we go! DonKangolJones’ Images of the Week: November 29th (There’s no limit on Pervy)

Last week of November and everything this FALL season seems to be in fine form.  We pretty much know what shows are about and what shows we like; and what characters we gravitate towards and which one manage to churn the bile in our stomachs (Kirino I’m looking at you).  And for now, I couldn’t be happier with what I’m getting.  Despite my following way too many series at once, I still managed to get some manga reading done too.  So let’s see what made the cut. Check-in Station Special: The World God Only Knows ep7 (twenty minutes as a Kanon fanboy)

I watched easily the best episode of The World God Only Knows last night.  It absolutely amazed me that they fleshed out Kanon’s arc so well.  It’s been roughly 2 years since I’ve read her arc, so that helped out in the surprise department as well.  It absolutely touched on the feelings I had reading it and I think enhanced it as well.  Maybe I just became one of those silly male fanboys at her concert, chanting her name and where silly robes covered with her name, but it was a magical moment seeing her overcome her very nagging, annoying, self-destructive hangups and rise into a shining star.  Easily a 5/5 for me and one of my favorite episodes of the year.
