Check-out Station: Heroman (there’s plenty of time for average, later)
There’s potential, and then there’s reality. There are the hopes for Heroman, and then there’s what Heroman really turned out to be. Seeing as this show was a mecha from Studio Bones, you have to forgive me for having high hopes. With shows like RahXephon and Eureka 7 under their belt, and my desperate need for a new mecha to satiate my desires I stuck around with Heroman, hoping for some great moment that would make this series memorable. I like to compare my anime to women and relationships with them (this isn’t the best habit, I admit). To say that I was sticking with the homely girl so I could have something secure and get some regular loving when I wasn’t sure where else I could get it would be accurate. Heroman was me sticking with the mediocre because that was all I had. Read more…
DonKangolJones’ Images of the Week: It’s so much easier for girls (Sept 12th)
A pattern has been revealed to me. Lately two shows have been fighting for my attention. One is obviously K-ON!!, which consistently is pulling my heartstrings, getting cuter and more emotional by the week. I didn’t think that could even be possible. The other is the dubious, infamous, ludicrous Highschool of the Dead. Which is making a habit of starting a new meme and sending anime fans into a murderous, rabid frenzy with each episode. Thank you God, that K-ON!! won out this week. Even a declaration of wetness couldn’t stop the juggernaut that is HTT. Read more…
DonKangolJones’ Images of the Week (August 22nd)
Another glorious week of anime and manga. I wasn’t disappointed at all. I have to admit though, I came across generous amount of yuri enjoying the material this week. I’m not bragging or anything, but expect this week to be especially gay. Read more…
DonKangolJones’ Images of the Week (August 8th)
I haven’t done my Images of the Week updates in awhile, so I’ve got quite a bit of catching up to do. But the time off did give me a little time to think. I’m still gonna shove my collages into this post with some small descriptors. But the title image will be the image I pick as the cream-of-the-crop. The very best, or at least, my favorite image from all the material in the week. Or in this case, pretty much the past month. Enjoy. Read more…
Check-in Station: Heroman eps 1-9 (Happiness is a butt kicking robot and serving Stan Lee coffee)
Take one kid’s dream, make it plausible by any means necessary, logic be damned and serve it up with the salt of innocence and the spice of nemesis. That is how Stan Lee’s formula has been for many of his properties. Heroman follows that formula to a tee. Now when applied to the medium of japanese animation how will that translate? Is Heroman just an uninventive name for an uninventive show? Or is Heroman really living up to its moniker?
