Servant X Service ep6: pitiful, most pitiful

August 12, 2013 1 comment

Ah! It feels good to finally be caught up with this show! I like Servant X Service too much to try to save up episodes for a marathon viewing.

Things get started normally enough, as we see Lucy speaking to a worrisome (or worry-ful) mother on her mobile phone. Though that convo is cut a little short when she comes across her boss, who is after all… a remote controlled stuffed animal. Read more…

Love Lab ep6: clash at the cram school!

Well this is a welcome change! In the first seconds of the show we get to meet Riko’s family, or at least most of it. Her little brother, who seems very popular with girls; and her mother, a normal woman who is understandably a little worried about her tomboy daughter. They’re both very familiar with Riko’s secret and bane, her lack of Read more…

Servant X Service

Episode 2

A cute episode, where we get to learn a bit more about the employees.  For one, the rather bland Chihaya is a rabid cosplayer, and a temp worker who fervently supports both.  Basically, she does temp work so she can afford to cosplay and take the necessary days off.  It’s a tad weird, but i still find it admirable.  I’m more worried about the next time she comes face to face with Lucy’s boobs though.  I’m starting to get the feeling that she’s jealous of them, and will snatch them off Lucy’s chest given the right opportunity.

I think my favorite gag involving Read more…

Check-in Station: Love Lab ep5 (proficiency is the key!)

This was an ambitious episode. With the looming problem of how the student council was going to discretely get the results of their love research to their client addressed, it was now just a matter of putting Riko’s ambitious plan into action. A classic case of things being easier said than done. But after all, all they have to do is hijack the school broadcast without permission, and without any of the teachers interfering with their weird broadcast. And since a “genius’ like Riko was planning it, then I’m sure it will go off without a hitch, right? Read more…

Check-in Station Catchup Comedy Special pt1: Love Lab ep3 & 4

The combination of taking a weekend off, and a massive and high quality Summer lineup has left me continually behind on my anime. So drastic measures have to be taken. This time around I’m going to try to cover two comedy anime at once. It seems unfair, especially to me because both shows are just so good. Love Lab continues to defy my narrow-minded expectations, and is just showing itself to be a good, FUNNY, and surprisingly clever anime. Servant X Service is the ‘adult” anime I’ve craved for awhile. No it’s not violent, sexual or deep. It just speaks to an adult experience. An experience that is all at the same time stressful, scary, daunting and Read more…

Check-in Station: Blood Lad & Love Lab ep1

I’m getting buried here. And I’m really starting to wish some of these shows aired 3 months or six months earlier, when I didn’t have much to watch, or there wasn’t so much competition.  Here are two shows that I took a peek at to see if I could my already swollen queue.  Here goes Blood Lad and Love Lab.  Yeah, I’m totally not gonna screw up these titles at all. Check-in Station: Servant X Service ep1 (that’s pretty stupid, and so is your name)

I’m gonna get the preface out of the way immediately. This show wasn’t even on my radar to begin with this season. But when someone explained the concept to me I thought it’d be an interesting one-off. It’s rare I get to see a weekly anime with adults in a normal real world setting. Kids, teenagers and college students seem to get all of the attention in anime. So I’m basically falling for the old trap of trying to be “diverse” in my anime watching. That didn’t work last season with Karneval. It likely will be my undoing this time around with this Servant X Service A show about (reads MAL synopsis) public service workers in Hokkaido? GEEZUS! What have I got myself into? This is going to be like low crawling under barbed wire through mud. Slow, hard, painful and I’m going to get punished for trying to get out of it. Read more…

Episode 11

There are many things I’ve said I will never do again.  Things like putting soy sauce on rice; watch a Neon Genesis Evangelion dub; renting from a black landlord (I don’t give a sh*t if you call me racist or not); becoming a born again Christian; joining the ****; mixing light and dark rums (GEEZUS, that was a terrible experience); and being friends with females.

Some of these are easy. Don’t put the soy sauce on the rice. You can only join the **** once, kinda. Unless the people who made the DVD/Blu-ray are complete a-holes then the disc for EVA should always be set to subs first.

While others are not so easy to keep, especially the not being friends with females thing.  It’s like a curse.  Some guys have shallow, sex filled relationships with women by the dozens.  I have rich fulfilling relationships with women that involve lots of talking and confiding and giving advice.  But NO sex.  I repeat, NONE.  Not an ounce.  Now if I was in anime like OreShura, I suppose that wouldn’t be a problem.  Because someone as lame as me would have women falling all over him.  This show…  Wow.  This show is a lesson in how it is IMPOSSIBLE to be casual friends with females.  The love is too deep.

Screw you Oreshura.  Screw.  You. Read more…

OreShura ep11: you can’t win if you don’t play the game.

Episode 10

It’s like holding a place in line for a new video game console or other piece of hot tech, and then immediately selling it on ebay. Or asking for a window seat on a plane when you know you have to use the bathroom every thirty minutes. Or any other number of selfish, inconsiderate things that come from taking something from others when you find no value in it yourself. It’s annoying. And when people find out, no one is going to like you for it. Whether Masuzu wants to admit it or not. She’s playing the game of love. And performing miserably. Also, as a side note I may be beginning to develop some resentment towards Eita. Read more…

Binbougami ga! ep3: your morals are sh*t!

Episode 2

I would say that Sakura Ichiko has become morally bankrupt piece of crap in my eyes, but that would prove that I haven’t been paying attention.  She’s what we imagine when the words “one percent” are uttered. She’s the epitome of the female women love to hate because of her good fortune and demeanor.  You could even say that she’s a guy’s worst nightmare and their natural predator, because as this episode helps demonstrate, she won’t hesitate to use a man for her aims.  And if that doesn’t work, she’d just as easily toss them away.  But with all that said, she somehow manages to skirt by by the fact that she’s actually not a horrible person.  Something deep down keeps saving her.  A horrible memory, a sense of obligation, or a small shriveled up conscience.  Sakura’s soul camps outside the gates of hell, resisting the void via the tug of a tiny string… and her massive surplus of good fortune.
