Binbougami ga! ep4: her weakness is that she’s not a bad enough person
What a funny problem to find yourself in: trying to figure out if the person you’re with is an angel or a devil; a good person, or a spawn of misfortune that tortures the lives of those around her for her own gain? Though perhaps I’m thinking much too deeply about this since the episode also includes a pervy monk who can’t stop obsessing over titties, and a masochist dog spirit that gets off on being whipped and having boiling hot water poured down his throat. Indeed, perhaps the person who is just selfish, spoiled and oblivious doesn’t have the worst or most vexing of issues. Read more…
Binbougami ga! ep3: your morals are sh*t!
I would say that Sakura Ichiko has become morally bankrupt piece of crap in my eyes, but that would prove that I haven’t been paying attention. She’s what we imagine when the words “one percent” are uttered. She’s the epitome of the female women love to hate because of her good fortune and demeanor. You could even say that she’s a guy’s worst nightmare and their natural predator, because as this episode helps demonstrate, she won’t hesitate to use a man for her aims. And if that doesn’t work, she’d just as easily toss them away. But with all that said, she somehow manages to skirt by by the fact that she’s actually not a horrible person. Something deep down keeps saving her. A horrible memory, a sense of obligation, or a small shriveled up conscience. Sakura’s soul camps outside the gates of hell, resisting the void via the tug of a tiny string… and her massive surplus of good fortune. Read more…
Binbougami ga! ep2: if this is war, then you’re gonna need a bigger gun.
This show is just pure fun all around! To marathon this show would drain my soul into an abyss, for lack of energy. But in one episode spurts, the maniacally manic pace is exhilarating! I was very curious to see how this Binbougami ga! would follow up such a well executed first episode. Now I’m curious to see if the entire season can stay this fun. Where episode one was a epic battle between strange enemies, with Sakura just barely winning through what would best be described as a miracle. Episode two shows us just what kind of a mountain our “protagonist”, Momiji has to climb. Read more…
Binbougami ga! ep1: good fortune weighs heavily on your chest
Crazy recommendation number 3! Binbougami ga! And boy did I get side swiped by this show.
It’s pretty well know that many Japanese believe that spirits/gods reside in everything around us. That kind of viewpoint tends to put other polytheistic religions to shame. You have plenty of religions where gods take credit for harvests, the Sun, the Moon, pregnancies, emotions, the concept of war (a personal fave of mine) and many other things. But I don’t think I’ve heard of a god of just direct misfortune. And what do you know? The anime has one… or two. Read more…
