Wooo! It’s back! Season 4 is here!
As you can guess from me having a blog about Japanese animation, I’m a huge fan of the art form. And I’m not some snobby otaku who only cares for material for Japan either. My love of animation started with American 80s cartoons of the best and worst quality. But for a very long time, I’d all but abandoned American cartoons and animation, with a few exceptions. Which is why I’m glad I’ve been able to come back in the past few and really enjoy some outstanding stuff. Whether it be the legacy of DC and Marvel’s animated movies (Flashpoint is outstanding) or TV series (Young Justice needs to be given a second chance); to me even enjoying stuff that my kids found first (Adventure Time and Regular Show); I’ve enjoyed this newer, higher quality, more imaginative Western animation. But for, the pinnacle has always been My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. That’s right! I’m a damned brony! I don’t wear the T-shirts. I don’t buy the toys. And I don’t look a pony pr0n. But I love the show dearly. Curse my existence now, and get it out of your system.
For now, all I want to say is that season 4 has finally begun. And I don’t know if this will be the last season or not, but I’m pretty hyped for it! And I know this is probably asking a big favor of anyone reading this, because I doubt most of you watch the show, let a lone care for it, but give it a chance. Just give it one episode. I know its a strange request, like asking someone to watch one of the Precure series, Naruto or Dragonball Z. It comes with all sorts of stereotypes and negative heresay, but I’m one for a quality animated show. And at its basest level, this is a quality show. Now that I got that out of the way, I can go back to my regularly scheduled anime coverage.
Note: the video above is from Digibrony. I’m particularly a fan of of analytic style of review, especially for this series. And if you become a fan of the show, or just want to know what makes the show so great, I suggest you check out his Youtube channel. He can explain it as well as anybody.
Binbougami ga! ep3: your morals are sh*t!
I would say that Sakura Ichiko has become morally bankrupt piece of crap in my eyes, but that would prove that I haven’t been paying attention. She’s what we imagine when the words “one percent” are uttered. She’s the epitome of the female women love to hate because of her good fortune and demeanor. You could even say that she’s a guy’s worst nightmare and their natural predator, because as this episode helps demonstrate, she won’t hesitate to use a man for her aims. And if that doesn’t work, she’d just as easily toss them away. But with all that said, she somehow manages to skirt by by the fact that she’s actually not a horrible person. Something deep down keeps saving her. A horrible memory, a sense of obligation, or a small shriveled up conscience. Sakura’s soul camps outside the gates of hell, resisting the void via the tug of a tiny string… and her massive surplus of good fortune. Read more…
#PenguinDrum ep24: next time someone says anime is dead, smack them with this show. #anime
I don’t really have much to say. I’ve never had much to say actually. I guess I’ll start by saying that this ending, while similar to Madoka Magica, wasn’t nearly as cruel as that show. You get just enough to know that things turned out well, though bitter sweet.
I’ve never watched a show I enjoyed so much, and Read more…
DonKangolJones’ Images of the Week: Sept. 12th (My Summer Vacation is Over, Thank God!)
It’s a miracle. I’ve stopped playing games and other forms of faffing about long enough to bang out a post! It may also help that the kids are back in school and this new budding sense of freedom has me excited. Besides, summer isn’t exactly my ideal season. Sure the beach was nice. But the earthquakes and the tornadoes and the water spouts and the hurricanes… f*ck! Someone on the east coast has somehow seriously pissed off Poseidon. Oh well, it’s not my problem, yet. It’s time for the images of the week. I got ’em all this time. Anime, manga and the pervy pics! Wooo! Let’s do this. Read more…
DonKangolJones’ Images of the Week: June 6th (Kitchen demons are the new hot pets)
Good week for anime, good week for manga, and a good week for games. But since the blog isn’t about games, and I’m sure you don’t wanna here by my third or fourth playthroughs of Mass Effect 2; I’m gonna stick to the anime and manga stuff if that’s okay with you guys? Let’s get to it! Read more…
Check-in Station: Dog Days eps1-5 (should I euthanize this beast?)
Like with most any show I watch that isn’t a highly recommended classic, I came into my first viewing of Dog Days with no expectations. And then I watched the first episode and began sharpening the knife. I just knew that this series didn’t have long and once put under my watchful eye towards it. I would don my olive wreath crown (which I wear for all of my home anime viewings), assume a comfortable seat on my thrown (a very comfortable executive leather chair) and give it a thorough thumbs up. Damning it to The Hall of Dropped and Incomplete series. Does Dog Days survive the infamous Five Episode Test? Read more…
DonKangolJones’ Images of the Week: May 8th (totally late, but still pervy)
I can’t believe we’re well into May. This has not been a quiet year, nor a quiet week. But I’m not gonna get into politics or who killed who. I just want a peaceful life where I can watch some good anime, drink well and enjoy my time with friends and family.
