Gargantia ep5: this is gonna make me recommission the Pervy Images of the Week

Ledo is sad because he can’t find a job, and his robot pal, Chamber is the most useful thing since duct tape. He goes with Amy to find a job. Too bad sucker, this is an Obama economy. Come back when you’ve gone to a liberal college and volunteered in a socialist country. Amy feels sorry for him, but has to go to her job. You know, because she’s actually useful. Unlike Ledo’s broken ugly flutes. Ledo searches for a job on his own. Ledo is apparently afraid of poop, and poop smell. Events later on in this story will leave this scene open for a tasteless joke about sex. Don’t worry, I won’t go there.

The fleet suddenly stops. Apparently  when the winds stop blowing and the ocean is calm, the fleet takes a break while the engineers and repairmen scrub stuff. Pinion (you know, that blonde moron that I’ve been calling a jerk these past four episodes) decides to throw a BBQ. But there’s no power for grill, so Chamber is drafted to cook the meat. Too bad, because the robot turns the meat into coal. At least they could start the grill now if they had some fire.

Also, cue bikinis. Lots and lots of bikinis.

As punishment for his dumbass robutt, Ledo is sent through Aggressive Tranny Town to get some secret treasure for Pinion. Because all trannies in anime are generally butch, and ugly, and possibly pedobears, they hunt and molest Ledo almost to death. He’s saved by Amy as she raises her friends to the top of the fleet to complete a task. Amy is nice enough to drop Ledo off past tranny town to get the treasure. Meanwhile, Pinion has decided to use Chamber’s hot, heat absorbent surface to cook the meat. Success!

Ledo retrieves the treasure, but has to power his way through Aggressive Tranny Town to make it back to the BBQ, once there he sees the small get together has turned into a large party. Amy clues Ledo in that the get together was originally for him, because Pinion had heard that he was sad that he couldn’t contribute. A touching episode ends touchingly.

I usually skip filler episodes, recaps and give hot spring episodes the minimalist treatment. But since this leisurely episode doesn’t really count as any of those, I’ll treat it a little bit better. After all, I did get to see a good portion of the female flowers in the Gargantia fleet in bathing suits. And it wasn’t as if care wasn’t taken to tell a light, but entertaining story. It’s nice to see that the Gargantia crew has warmed up to Ledo and Chamber. I think he just needs to relax, and be prepared to protect the fleet. It’s more than a worthwhile job.

This is how I like my fanservice – light and vaguely realistic. I approve of bikini-clad girls not being stick-thin with ridiculously huge melon breasts.

Yeah, the show kinda just threw the cast in swimwear and said, “deal with it.” It takes place on a boat anyway. For some reason, that just helps everyone mellow out when it comes to clothing.

I love how at this point in humanity’s recovery from global warmng, the textile industry has gotten back to developing the latest in trendy swimwear.
