End of Year Special: The Best pt3 (Anime Series of the Year)

It’s getting well into January and I realized that I couldn’t drag things out bit by bit until February roared around and decided to streamline my end of year awards.  Let me just say that if your show didn’t make it more than likely I just didn’t get around to seeing it… or I hated it.  And that being said, this can’t be called definitive in any way.  Like all my blog entries I’m really just archiving my thoughts and experiences to look back on at a later time.  Regardless, here’s what I most enjoyed about 2010 in delicious All-American list form.

Check-out Station: Farewell Fall 2010 season! (I stayed a bit too long.)

Fall 2010 of the anime season was the first (and probably only) season of material I tried to follow almost completely as it aired.  Some may call it ambitious, I call it a f*cking chore (sorry, I watched Zero Punctuation before writing this so I may be a little “snarky” i.e. a bitch!).  But regardless I had a lot of fun, watched plenty of quality anime, and some horrid ones as well.  And normally I do goodbye post for every series I complete.  And normally I’d have time to do that.  But, and let me count, ….. ELEVEN anime means nearly eleven posts (obviously several are still ongoing) and I just don’t have the time.  Not to mention the then ongoing series that completed at or near the end of the season.  So I decided to roll everything up into one fat, American mega post and give a mini-Check-out for each and every one of these series.  Here we go!

DonKangolJones’ Images of the Week

Another successful week of absorbing the drippings on Japan’s animated culture, another week of joy.  And I think one thing is truly clear.  Panty and Stocking rule the day (I mean week)!

Katanagatari ep10: who would’ve thought a blade-less sword could be so beautiful?

First of all, it appears Kyotoryuu, Shichika and all is a deviant blade. Not really a big surprise in my book given that it’s been pretty well hinted at for awhile now. I’m with Shichika for now, “so what? Who cares?” He and Togame are near the end and they can’t afford to be reflective now. Though it is kinda funny how Togame ended up starting from number thirteen to one and so on, as opposed to the one to twelve she thought.

Check-in Station: Katanagatari ep9 (have your fun now…)

Probably the funniest and lightest episode of the series so far.  Though I wouldn’t go so far as to call it fluff.  There’s some substantial material here.  Interestingly Meisai gets brought up twice in conversation between Shichika and Zanki.  It may be Shichika comparing the two somewhat similar characters or perhaps him showing a little regret over slaying her.  More importantly for now, Zanki brings up the thought of Kyotouryuu being a curse.  Something I’m hesitant to dismiss.

#Katanagatari ep8: Mecha vs. Shounen

As usual, there is plenty to touch on in an episode of this series. First of all, Shichika and Togame have become really flirtatious. Though I question whether my description of it is accurate. Flirting? They seem to be in love, as what I used to think was mere flirting feels more like cuddling and play between lovers.

DonKangolJones’ Images of the Week (August 8th)

I  haven’t done my Images of the Week updates in awhile, so I’ve got quite a bit of catching up to do.  But the time off did give me a little time to think.  I’m still gonna shove my collages into this post with some small descriptors.  But the title image will be the image I pick as the cream-of-the-crop.  The very best, or at least, my favorite image from all the material in the week.  Or in this case, pretty much the past month.  Enjoy.

This week’s Images of the Week (SissKiss, Love Devils and Angel Frog Pandering)

This was a pretty good week for anime when it came to action.   Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Katanagatari and Shippuuden are all impressing right now.   Angel Beats is a hot confused mess right now, but it still keeps me interested.

Seriously, I want to yell at whoever green lit these decisions to show so much material in a preview and strangle them. I don’t care if it is a troll or not. Stop it!

As for the excellent, excellent episode. It feels good to catch onto the major point of a story before they reveal it to you. Points like having the super strong amateur best Kyottoryu, then seeing a body switcher. The great feeling from knowing in the background is this overwhelming, paralyzing presence (feeling was promptly destroyed in the previews). Enjoying the dialogue and bits of gold in it between our persevering couple. Great episode. Even better that the loli was super cute without being annoying.

I’m still worried about this show trolling me though.
